The ER vestibule is being equipped with a new drop ceiling and heat blowers. This will be a welcome change for people coming in the ER entrance when the wind is blowing from the north. The plumbing tie-in to the main sewer line was completed last week. This week workers are in the new edition tiling the new shower rooms--one specifically for decontamination from exposure to hazardous substances or materials. The main ER beds have been moved and the area they once occupied is now walled off. From behind this temporary wall you can hear the soft roar of the jackhammer. The construction crew is removing the old concrete to run new line under the floor. Surprisingly enough the noise is not as loud as I thought it would be, however still cumbersome, so please bear with us.

A worker welds air ducts inside the new area of the Emergency Room. Interior painting is done in this area and the rooms are really taking shape. Next week begins the tie-in of new to existing plumbing. This involves running pipe through the hallway between the nurses station and the large treatment room. New cubicles in the emergency room are shown from the clerk's point of view. When finished, the new cubicles will be staggered to increase patient privacy. Half of the ER vestibule is now blocked off so the concrete can be removed and replaced. The jackhammering is very loud--you can feel it through the floor! The good news--it will be done soon. Concrete is still being poured, but as we head into the weekend we are getting some cooler weather. Today they are pouring the concrete on north side of ER for the new steam heated sidewalks. Which I must say are cool in and of themselves. For the past two days workers coiled red tubing around the frame of the new sidewalk. This tubing will be steam heated during the winter to prevent ice buildup. Fresh concrete was poured last week for the sidewalks in front of the ER. These sidewalks will be heated for winter snowmelt, which fortunately is a long way off. Be prepared for lots of work going on inside the ER waiting room this week. The waiting room will be partially closed off beginning today to install fireproofing. Today they are pouring the curb and gutter on the south side of the ER entrance. Aside from the concrete they are working on walls on the inside and working on the roof addition.The ER entrance is small compared to normal but it is manageable for all. And to answer the comment posted about the ice - yes, the new ice/water machine does have the crushed/pelt ice that is available on each unit. Tuesday, May 6The City inspection took place on Friday, May 2. Sheetrock is installed in the "addition" where decorative windows will be. The electrical rough-in is complete. The project is on schedule to be complete around May 28.

Friday, May 2, 2008Soffits and arches at doorways are installed. Plumbing is roughed in. Sheetrock wraps at the windows to be installed today. Window frames scheduled for installation today. Remodel of the serving line counter should begin. Rough-in inspection by City inspector scheduled for the afternoon.

May 1, 2008Plumbers will tie in sewer lines, electricians will continue rough in, general contractor will finish framing, backing and soffit installation. Cabinets and windows should be on site today. Building Inspection should happen on Friday. Flooring demo will be completed in the closed area on Sunday 5-4.

April 30, 2008 · Kitchen Serving Area - Norton Construction began construction on Monday, April 28. Current walls were demolished, electrical has been rerouted and flooring has been removed in the appropriate areas. Today the new walls will continue to be framed in and electrial will start to be roughed in. This project is on schedule and should be complete within 30 days - May 28th.
